Moving to Fulham – A Guide for Families

Family Friendly Fulham

Fulham in Southwest London neighbours Kensington, Chelsea and Hammersmith on the Northern banks of the Thames. It was once largely rural and similarly is now a quiet residential area full of wide tree lined streets and plentiful green spaces.

Fulham is mainly made up of pretty red brick Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses. Larger family homes can be found around the Hurlingham Club on Napier Avenue and Edenhurst Avenue. The well know “Alphabet Streets” Clonclurry Street, Doneraile Street and Ellerby Street are also a favourite for families with close proximity to Bishops Park, Fulham Palace and the river. The Peterborough Estate just south of Parsons Green boasts pretty Victorian homes with loft extensions and basement conversions which offer even more much needed space for growing families. The pretty stucco fronted houses on Moore Park Road, between Kings Road and Fulham Road, offer a fantastic location and even better for football fans as it is right by Stamford Bridge.

Fulham’s Facilities

The SW6 postcode has great transport links for commuters including four underground stations, two overground stations and an expansive network of bus routes. Fulham is packed with bars, restaurants and boutiques and if you are looking for interior inspiration for your new home you are in the right place. The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour is the interior design mecca and the largest of its kind in Europe.  Fulham is truly the home of interiors with an abundance of antiques shops too, Lillie Road is famous for its whopping 19 antique stores!

Family friendly Fulham has an abundance of green space and sports facilities lending itself to an active family lifestyle. Hurlingham Park, in the middle of Fulham, boasts football pitches, tennis courts and most recently the return of polo. Bishops Park, South Park and Eel Brook Common also offer cricket pitches, children’s play areas and bowling greens, all in all covering the bases for outdoor sports!

Whether you are after the hustle and bustle of shops and restaurants on your doorstep or the tranquillity of wide open spaces and riverbank walks, Fulham really has it all.
