It’s All About Wimbledon
What’s on in SW19
The Championships at Wimbledon are well underway and as a neighbour of theirs in SW19 our Wimbledon branch have taken a look at all the other wonderful places Wimbledon has to offer… Aside from the most famous tennis club in the world!
Situated in South West London, Wimbledon has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age. The area is largely split into two parts; Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Town. It is hugely popular with families due to its authentic village charm and relaxed atmosphere away from busy city life. The housing and architecture here is very mixed, mainly Victorian but there are also modern houses and apartments and homes dating back to the 1760s!
More than just Tennis
Not only does the area have fantastic transport links into the city but it also boasts lots of local facilitates and amenities. Wimbledon high street forms part of the original medieval village with beautiful period buildings and plenty of shops. Expect all the high street stores plus lovely one off boutiques and plenty of restaurants, bars and even nightclubs.
Families definitely benefit from the array of local sports clubs including; riding, tennis (of course!) and golf clubs plus a few leisure centres. Locals also have the fantastic Wimbledon Common on their doorstep. 1200 acres of parkland means it is the largest common land in London and of course, home to the famous Wombles!
